Toby Trackman is a Grierson-winning, BAFTA & RTS-nominated director based in the UK. Known for his beautifully crafted, cinematic approach, he brings sensitivity, strong story-telling and creativity to every project. Equally comfortable working with A list talent such as Dua Lipa and Chris Martin, world leading scientists and thinkers, or contributors in the most sensitive of situations, such as newly bereaved parents, he’s delivered series and singles for Disney+, Netflix, and all the UK terrestrials.

Before directing, Toby was a director of photography on music videos and dramas. This experience helped develop his aesthetic and understanding of dramatic storytelling and emotion, qualities which he now brings to his factual films. His first documentary, The Boy with the Incredible Brain vividly bought to life the inner world of synaesthete Daniel Tammett, earning a BAFTA nomination for best specialist factual. For The Brain and Creative, Toby worked with renowned author, thinker and neuroscientist David Eagleman, to bring complex philosophical and scientific ideas to the screen, while his work with Duwayne Brooks intimately explored the raw trauma inflicted by knife crime in double Grierson winning film Stabbed. 

Most recently, Toby has led a major music series for Disney+ working alongside Oscar winners Asif Kapadia and Simon Chinn to tell the stories of Chris Martin, Noel Gallagher, Questlove, Little Simz and Dua Lipa.
