Sampson Collins is an RTS-winning director/ producer/ writer, journalist and photographer, who has a proven ability to find, develop and execute high profile stories built around strong characters, turning previously ignored narratives into engrossing films with a social and cultural relevance.
Sampson is currently directing ’99’ for Ventureland, Studio 99 and Buzz16 - the definitive documentary of the 10 historic days in 1999 when Manchester United cemented themselves within footballing immortality by winning the Premier League, the FA Cup, and the Champions League. The 3-part series will screen on Amazon Prime in May 2024.
Before that he created and directed the RTS-winning, Grierson-nominated ‘Gazza’, an archive-only two-part documentary series on the life and career of Paul Gascoigne, a modern history of British tabloid culture told through the destruction of a sporting icon, which screened in April 2022 to more than 2m viewers on BBC Two and iPlayer.
His debut film was the independent feature documentary ‘Death of a Gentleman’ which investigated corruption in the administration of world cricket. He produced, co-directed and narrated the film, which was released in UK cinemas in 2015. The film won a Sports Journalism Award in 2016, helped change policy at the International Cricket Council and was sold to Netflix worldwide.
