Powerful new doc from Stern & Wild client examines allegations of abuse faced by shock rocker Marilyn Manson
Huge shout out to Stern & Wild filmmaker Karen McGann whose explosive new documentary series Marilyn Manson: Unmasked launches on Channel 4 tonight.
Screening over three consecutive nights, the chilling docuseries aims to uncover the true story of controversial rock star Marilyn Manson from his rise to stardom in Florida in the nineties to being dropped by his label in 2021 following a criminal investigation into allegations of physical and sexual abuse brought against him by several women, including his ex-partner the actress Evan Rachel Wood. While Manson continues to deny the allegations, the series looks at the blurred line between transgressive and criminal behaviour and explores the systems that allow extreme conduct to go unchallenged for so long.
Over a year in the making, the series is the Guardian’s Pick of the Week, Critics’ Choice in the Sunday Times and was described as “horrifying but essential viewing” in an in-depth review in Saturday’s Independent.
It is a Lightbox and Rolling Stone Films production for Channel 4 in association with Fifth Season and Media Finance Capital. Karen is Series Director for Lightbox alongside Zoe Jewell as Series Producer, Nic Preston as Line Producer and Selina Ferguson as Production Executive. Exec Producers for Lightbox are Simon Chinn, Jonathan Chinn and Suzanne Lavery. Jason Fine and Gus Wenner are Exec Producers for Rolling Stone Films. It was commissioned by Sacha Mirzoeff at Channel 4. It airs on the channel tonight at 10:00pm and at the same time on 15 and 16 January and will be available to stream on catch-up following the first broadcast. Watch the trailer here:
