Latest award nod for Stern & Wild filmmaker’s fantastic conservation doc

We are delighted to announce that Stern & Wild client Miles Blayden-Ryall’s feature documentary Silverback has been nominated for the best Environmental & Wildlife programme prize at this year’s Banff World Media Festival Rockie Awards.

Miles directed, filmed and edited the amazing production which follows wildlife cameraman Vianet Djenguet as he joins the effort to protect the critically endangered eastern lowland gorillas of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is produced by Off the Fence and France Télévisions for the BBC in association with Featuristic Films.

Silverback has already been widely acclaimed. It was recently nominated for the best Science & The Natural World programme prize at the upcoming RTS Programme Awards. In 2024, it was the winner of the best Natural History or Environmental Documentary prize at the Grierson Awards and won a trio of prizes at the 2023 Jackson Wild Media Awards: the Grand Teton Award; the People & Nature, Long Form Award; and the On Screen Personality Award (Vianet Djenguet).

For the first time, the Festival is merging its Banff Gala Awards and Rockie Awards International Program Competition into a single ceremony. The awards show will take place on 9 June at 5:30 pm MT (4:30 pm PT/ 7:30 pm ET). For a full list of this year’s nominees, click here.
